In 2001, Karen gained national fame and recognition by winning the prestigious title of Miss West Virginia USA and competed in the nationally televised CBS Miss USA Pageant.

That same year, she was also crowned Miss Canadian Oktoberfest and served as an ambassador for the nine-day festival. During that time she made over 100 personal appearances on regional & national radio and television promoting the festival.

She has appeared in music videos for artists such as Yerba Buena and Sugar Bear, has acted in films including State Property II, and has been featured in numerous TV commercials and magazine campaigns.

Karen also acted as the official spokesperson for a national race car campaign for the car company Audi. Karen made appearances on national and regional television promoting the campaign in 15 different states and 26 US cities.

As a dancer, she's performed at live shows, opening up for artists including Montell Jordan and Jagged Edge.

One of Karen's main attributes as a model is her ability to display a wide range of looks. During a beauty queen segment on the David Letterman show, David and William Shatner referred to Karen as looking like J Lo, and dubbed her K Lo.
